Many people assume that because they go to church, they're automatically saved. Some believe that because they were raised in a Christian home, they already have a place in heaven.
But salvation doesn't come through church attendance, or family background, or Christian culture.
Salvation is a free gift from God that can't be earned. Jesus offered us the gift of salvation through His sacrifice on the cross, and we receive this gift when we repent of our sins, accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, and build a personal relationship with him.
In other words, JESUS is the only way to heaven.
Not church attendance, or good works, or family tradition. It's Jesus alone who can reconcile us to God (John 14:6).
Going to church is good. In fact, it's very important. Gathering with other believers helps us grow, learn God's Word, and encourage one another. But church attendance alone isn't enough.
Sitting in a church every week (or even multiple times a week) doesn't automatically make someone a follower of Christ any more than sitting in a garage makes someone a car. Being a Christian isn't simply about attending services. It's about having a real relationship with Jesus.
Have you truly surrendered your life to him? Have you become a new creation in Christ? Do you spend time with God outside of church? Are you intentionally living for his glory?
Our lives outside of church should reflect our commitment to him. If you have attended church your whole life, but Jesus is still not the centre of your life, then it may be time to honestly examine your spiritual walk.
2 Corinthians 5:17 teaches us that when someone is in Christ, they become a new creation. As we grow closer to him, our attitudes, desires, and way of living begin to change.
Now THIS is where church fellowship becomes important. Through Bible study, prayer, serving others, worship, and fellowship with other believers, we grow in our faith and become more like Christ.
However, church attendance alone won't get you to heaven, nor will good works alone.
So, friend, take a moment to reflect on your spiritual walk. Do you truly have a personal relationship with Jesus?
If not, it's not too late. Jesus is still calling people to himself today. Invite him into your heart, and begin your new life with him.
