David put it this way: "I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14). Couple of verses later, he adds, "Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed" (v. 16). Long before you were born, God already knew you and had his hand on your life.
You're not a mistake
A lot of people, both neurodivergent and neurotypical, wrestle with the same question at some point: why did God make me this way? Why am I different?
Let me tell you this truth: God knew exactly what he was doing when he created you.
Whether you're neurodivergent (a person with autism, ADHD, OCD, dyslexia, synesthesia, or any other form of neurodivergence or developmental difference) or neurotypical, you're not a mistake. You're part of God's intentional design.
Very few people know this, but I have synesthesia, a condition that causes me to associate some (not all) people and things with colors. Which means I process information differently than most people around me, making me experience the world in a totally unique way. And honestly? I've come to love that about myself. I'm drawn to color, to all its shades and textures. Over time, I've come to understand that this is simply part of how God created me. I am unique and not meant to blend in!
The same is true for you.
You were never meant to blend in—you were meant to stand out. So stand proud! Stop trying to blend in, because you're going to stick out like a sore thumb, anyway! Might as well own it and be proud of it.
Let's be real, though—some conditions do make parts of life harder. They can affect how you learn, communicate, focus, process things, or interact with the world around you, and that can make everyday life feel more difficult than it looks for the average person. But don't let that convince you that you're less valuable or less loved. Don't pile self-condemnation on top of the challenges you're already carrying, my friend.
When the apostle Paul struggled with his own weakness, the Lord told him, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:9). God's strength is not limited by our challenges. In fact, his power is quite often displayed clearly through them.
So shine, and shine brightly. Your identity isn't in what people say, what they see when they look at you, or what they think when they interact with you. Your identity lies in Christ, and Christ alone matters.
You are fearfully and wonderfully made, uniquely designed by God, and deeply loved by him!
